This is an exciting opportunity to join the City of Coffs Harbour in a newly created Team Leader Waste Facility Operations role. Established following a recent structural review of our Waste Services function, this position is one of several new leadership and specialist roles created to strengthen the team and support the delivery of safe, efficient and sustainable waste services into the future
As Team Leader Waste Facility Operations, you'll lead the day-to-day operations of the City's waste management facilities, providing leadership to employees and contractors while ensuring the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of services across our landfill, resource recovery and transfer station operations.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced leader who enjoys balancing operational delivery, people leadership, environmental compliance and continuous improvement in a dynamic and essential community service.
About the Role
Reporting to the Section Leader Waste Services, you'll be responsible for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the City's waste facilities and associated workforce. You'll lead employees and contractors, oversee operational and capital works activities, manage compliance obligations, and drive initiatives that improve service delivery and operational performance.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Leading landfill, transfer station and resource recovery operations
Managing and developing operational employees and contractors
Overseeing environmental, safety and regulatory compliance
Coordinating operational and capital improvement projects
Managing plant, equipment and facility assets
Driving continuous improvement opportunities and operational efficiencies
Supporting strategic waste management and resource recovery initiatives
Building strong relationships with regulators, contractors, customers and internal stakeholders.
About You
You're a capable and people-focused leader who thrives in operational environments and enjoys developing high-performing teams.
You bring strong leadership skills, sound judgement and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance and customer service. You are equally comfortable working in the field, engaging with operational teams and contractors, as you are contributing to strategic planning and reporting.
Most importantly, you're passionate about leading people, driving continuous improvement and delivering outcomes that make a positive difference to the community.
What's Required?
To be successful in this role, you'll bring:
Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Waste Management or a related discipline, and/or equivalent extensive experience
Significant experience in waste operations, civil operations or a related field
Demonstrated experience leading and supervising employees and contractors
Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety, environmental compliance and operational risk management
Experience managing operational services, projects, budgets and contractor performance
Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills
A current White Card and Class C Driver Licence
Current First Aid Certificate, or the ability to obtain one
