Store Support Center
We are searching for an experienced Vice President, Environmental Health & Safety for our Store Support Center located at 600 Citadel Drive, Commerce, CA, 90040.
SUMMARY
The Vice President of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) provides strategic leadership and direction for all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives across the organization. This executive is responsible for building a world-class EHS culture, developing long-range strategies, managing risk, reducing incidents, and ensuring the company's operations meet or exceed all federal, state, and local regulations. The VP EHS partners closely with executive leadership to align EHS priorities with business objectives and drive continuous improvement across all facilities and operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned or required.
Strategic Leadership & Program Development
Develop and execute a comprehensive EHS strategy that supports organizational goals and promotes proactive risk mitigation.
Establish long-term EHS objectives, KPIs, and performance metrics to monitor progress and improve outcomes.
Lead a team of EHS professionals and build organizational competency through training, coaching, and mentorship.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure company-wide compliance with environmental, occupational health, safety, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT, ISO standards).
Oversee audits, inspections, and investigations; ensure timely corrective actions.
Manage permitting, reporting, and interface with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.
Identify and assess EHS risks, recommending mitigation strategies and emergency preparedness plans.
Safety Culture & Operational Excellence
Promote a zero-incident safety culture through behavioral-based safety strategies, employee engagement, and leadership visibility.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistent EHS practices across all business units.
Lead incident response and root-cause analysis processes; drive systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.
Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability
Lead initiatives to reduce environmental footprint, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, resource management, and sustainability programs.
Support corporate ESG reporting and sustainability goal-setting.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with Operations, HR, Legal, Facilities, Food Safety and Loss Prevention teams to integrate EHS into business planning and decision-making.
Communicate EHS performance, trends, and initiatives to executive leadership, the Board, and employees.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities, industry groups, and community partners.
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
Experience:
- 12–15+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience, including managing multi-site operations.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
- Demonstrated success implementing and managing large-scale EHS programs and driving cultural transformation.
- Experience in multi-unit food retailing and supply chain. Grocery experience a requirement.
CERTIFICATIONS / OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM, PE).
- Must have strong ethical judgment and integrity. Culture fit a must.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages a team of EHS professionals in a fast-paced and complex environment. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $175,000.00 to $225,000.00. The actual starting pay will be determined by a number of qualifications; including, experience and relevant skills.
