- Technical Maintenance Specialist
Description
The Technical Maintenance Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining electrical power circuits and equipment associated with Lift Stations. This role encompasses work at pump stations as well as certain plant and measurement facilities, as necessary.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include the installation, inspection, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic equipment related to Lift Station operations.
This position operates within the Collections Department under the direction of the Department Supervisor and will also collaborate with the SCADA department on projects and improvements as required.
Complete all necessary documentation associated with assigned duties.
Perform preventive maintenance checks on pumps, drivers, and auxiliary equipment.
Identify, report, and address any safety or environmental concerns.
Ensure all activities comply with company standards, procedures, and regulatory or tariff requirements.
Exhibit commitment to operational excellence.
Mentor colleagues as appropriate to foster knowledge sharing and professional growth.
Maintain electrical switchgear and power distribution equipment at Lift Stations.
Oversee construction or maintenance activities performed by third-party vendors.
Remain current on Operations Qualifications and any required training.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental objectives.
Experience / Specific Knowledge:
Practical knowledge of National Electric Codes.
Proficiency with electronic test instruments.
Understanding of process controls and instrumentation fundamentals.
Experience in preparing electrical circuit drawings.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, and diagrams.
Must be skilled in applying and interpreting results from standard electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, etc.).
Familiarity with computers and Windows operating systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel and Word.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
You must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the company and its insurers.
May be required to obtain and maintain certifications necessary for the fulfillment of job responsibilities.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be able to respond to callouts and emergencies (within one hour) during and outside regular business hours; a company mobile phone will be provided.
Residency within a 1.25-hour response/travel time to the Hilton Head PSD facility is required.
Overtime availability is expected and may be required.
Strong job planning and prioritization skills.
Fundamental math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
Customer-oriented mindset.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team, follow supervisory direction, adhere to required work schedules, maintain attention to detail, and observe all applicable work rules.
Demonstrated willingness and ability to advance to higher levels of responsibility.
Requirements
Working Conditions / Physical Demands:
Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions.
Frequent climbing and working from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, stairwells, and walkways are required.
Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds in awkward positions and occasionally lift to 50 pounds from floor to waist level.
Must be prepared to work in low-lit, dirty, and hot environments.
Shift work may be required; normal duty hours are from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge (not mandatory but advantageous):
At least two years of experience operating and maintaining water and wastewater equipment.
Knowledge of and experience with safe handling practices for flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems.
Familiarity with electronic equipment, including but not limited to contactors, soft starts, drives, and related auxiliary devices.
