Job description
4SURE ("Smart Sensor System for Sustainable Urban Regions") will deploy several hundred interconnected stations in the cities of Karlsruhe and Freiburg and their surroundings to record meteorological, vegetation and hydrological parameters, and will provide a unique data foundation for climate‑adaptation research in cities.
We are looking for a scientific project coordinator to work with us in the establishment and utilization of this unique network, together with researchers from KIT and the University of Freiburg, as well as stakeholders. The position will be filled at 70% to 100% FTE for 3 years initially (can be renewed).
In an interdisciplinary team, your responsibilities will be:
- Site selection together with scientists, liaison with city officials
- Define and implement an automated quality‑control, data publication and data visualization pipeline
- Process, explore and analyse multi‑parameter time series
- Collaborate on peer‑reviewed publications, project reports, scientific conferences and workshops for municipal decision‑makers
- Coordinate and help facilitate consortium meetings
- Project documentation and reporting

Personal qualification
Your profile:
- PhD in meteorology, climate science, hydrology, environmental informatics, physical geography or a related field
- Previous experience with sensor networks and/or environmental data management
- Programming experience (Python preferred)
- Fluency in German and English (written and spoken)
- Experience in data-quality assurance and with AI/ML methods is an advantage.

Salary category 13 TV-L, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
