Position Title: Ordinance Officer Full Time
Immediate Supervisor: Building Official
Classification Starting 29A Pay rate $25.117
After 3 Years 29 E $29.588
JOB SUMMARY
Enforces City Ordinance and represents the City in Court regarding unresolved violations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Activities:
a) Knowledge of codes, ordinances, requirements, and standards.
b) Enforcement of noxious weeds, anti-blight, and signs in public rights-of-way.
c) Receives complaints and assists citizens regarding violations of City ordinances for anti-blight, noxious weeds, signs in public rights-of-way, investigating and determining the proper course of action to correct problems, and issuing violation notices.
d) Maintains records and submits enforcement reports.
e) Prepares weed list and snow removal list.
f) Oversees the weed and snow removal contractors on scheduled cutting days.
g) Collects and stores photographs of properties where weeds have been cut and snow removed.
h) Travels throughout the community and removes all signs in rights-of-way.
i) Works with the City Attorney’s office and the Court to pursue unresolved issues.

Requirements
Job Qualifications:
a) High School diploma or equivalent.
b) Good public relations and ability to maintain good communication skills both orally and written.
c) Ability to understand criminal and civil law, court procedures, municipal ordinances, codes, and specifications.
d) Valid Michigan driver’s license.
Required Education and Experience:
a) Must have experience in maintaining standard records and thorough documentation.
b) A minimum of one year’s experience relating to the review and enforcement of codes and ordinances or equivalent is desirable.
c) Experience with computers and BS&A software
Physical Activities
a) This position requires a person to remain in a stationary position and often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
b) It necessitates moving from one work site to another to accomplish tasks.
c) The position requires communicating with others to exchange information.
d) Operating motor vehicles is required.
e) It requires assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
f) The physical demands are primarily sedentary work that involves sitting or standing.
Working Conditions/Environmental
While generally this position doesn’t experience adverse working conditions, there will be occasions that require working in both low and high temperatures. The position will also experience noisy conditions as well as exposure to outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
