Description
The Water Authority–Cayman is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Operations Manager with practical field based experience overseeing the operation and maintenance of its wastewater collection and treatment systems. The role is responsible for managing the Authority’s wastewater infrastructure, including approximately 25 km of gravity mains, 27 lift stations and 500 service connections, as well as a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment plant with a design capacity of 9,500 m³ per day (2.5 MGD).
The role is responsible for managing the Authority’s wastewater infrastructure, including approximately 20 km of gravity mains, 17 lift stations and 300 service connections, as well as a Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) treatment plant with a design capacity of 9,500 m³ per day (2.5 MGD).
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in the operations and maintenance of wastewater collection systems and WWTPs, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering is preferred.
- Highest level Wastewater Treatment/Collection System Operator Certification (Class IV or equivalent) in current or most recent jurisdiction of employment.
- Lead and manage the wastewater operations activities - assigning tasks, monitoring workflow, improving processes, and engaging with staff regularly to identify and resolve issues.
- Proven hands on experience with materials, methods and equipment used in the operations and maintenance of wastewater collection and treatment systems. Including submersible pumps, diffusers, blowers, SCADA systems, online monitoring systems, associated software, manhole rehabilitation and lift stations.
- Strong operational knowledge with practical application experience in wastewater treatment processes, including biological treatment, basic chemical and bacteriological testing, and relevant mathematical principles.
- Proven working knowledge of occupational hazards and standard health and safety practices.
- Strong IT skills, with proficiency in spreadsheets and working with database systems.
- Good computer skills, including use of spreadsheets and databases.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, direct and train junior personnel in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection and treatment systems.
