The proof is in our more than 240 years of academic and professional achievements and our continual commitment to higher education. UGA is currently ranked among the top 20 public universities in U.S. News & World Report. The University's main campus is located in Athens, approximately 65 miles northeast of Atlanta, with extended campuses in Atlanta, Griffin, Gwinnett, and Tifton. UGA employs approximately 3,100 faculty and more than 7,700 full-time staff. The University's enrollment exceeds 41,000 students including over 31,000 undergraduates and over 10,000 graduate and professional students. Academic programs reside in 19 schools and colleges, including our newly established School of Medicine.
About the College/Unit/Department
The College of Engineering has growing strength in areas that support aerospace engineering, including combustion, acoustics and vibration, controls, robotics and autonomous systems, lightweight and advanced materials, andadvanced manufacturing. Expertise within the College is supported by an extensive network across campus inbusiness, policy, law, and outreach.
Faculty hired as part of this initiative will join a rapidly growing College of Engineering that combines interdisciplinary research and scholarship with excellent instruction and service. The UGA College of Engineering currently enrolls over 3,000 engineering majors and has 125 full-time engineering faculty across 15 degree programs. The college also jointly administers the School of Computing in collaboration with the UGA Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, an academic unit that comprises over 1700 computer science majors and 44 full-time faculty. Beginning in January 2027, the College of Engineering will comprise four interdisciplinary schools: theSchool of Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering; the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering; the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and the School of Mechanical and Agricultural Engineering.
Significant investments in infrastructure have resulted in an expansion of laboratory facilities for research and scholarship and new classrooms and instructional labs. College of Engineering faculty have space in two major capital projects on campus to create interdisciplinary research facilities. Our main instructional facility, Driftmier Engineering Center, has also undergone a complete renovation to create flexible classrooms that enable a range ofteaching modalities and the incorporation of interdisciplinary instructional labs. The common instructional facilities also foster collaboration by allowing faculty, staff, and students to interact and collaborate in a single facility.

Position Summary
The College of Engineering at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, nine-month (academic year) clinical faculty position at the rank of Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor in aerospace and mechanical engineering, to begin August 1, 2027. We seek an accomplished aerospace professional, typically with 15 or more years of experience in industry, at a national laboratory, or in a government aerospace organization, who is ready to bring that experience to the classroom. Many engineering schools call this role a Professor of Practice. The position is non-tenure-track, with a career progression path through the clinical ranks. It will be housed in the School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering ( ECAM ), which is reorganizing into two schools; this position will reside in the new School of Mechanical and Agricultural Engineering and report to the School Chair. The position includes the opportunity to supplement salary during the summer through teaching or sponsored projects.
Teaching is the primary responsibility of this position. The successful candidate will typically teach five to six courses per academic year, drawn from the undergraduate certificate in aerospace engineering (such as aerodynamics, propulsion, flight mechanics, aerospace structures and materials, and stability and control), required and elective mechanical engineering courses, and senior capstone design. The candidate will also help coordinate and grow the aerospace certificate, recruit industry-sponsored capstone projects, build an aerospace industry advisory group, develop internship and co-op pipelines, and advise student organizations such as the AIAA student chapter. Research is a smaller component of the role and is expected to take place largely during the summer. We are especially interested in candidates who can build partnerships between UGA and their former employers and professional networks, leading to sponsored projects, student opportunities, and collaborative research with tenure-track colleagues. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, aerodynamics and computational fluid dynamics, propulsion, aerospace structures and structural dynamics, guidance, navigation, and control, autonomous and uncrewed aircraft systems, flight test, systems engineering, and advanced manufacturing for aerospace. The College seeks an experienced and inspiring educator committed to excellence in teaching, student success, and industry engagement.
The successful candidate will work with faculty across the University of Georgia, including in cross-cutting units such as the University of Georgia Research Institute, the Advanced Manufacturing Living Lab, the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, and the Georgia Network for Electric Mobility.
This position is part of a campus-wide presidential hiring initiative that builds on the economic development opportunities within Georgia and the southeast region. Aerospace is among Georgia's largest export sectors, and the state has a concentrated aerospace presence that includes Gulfstream Aerospace in Savannah, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Marietta, Delta TechOps in Atlanta, Robins Air Force Base in middle Georgia, and Archer Aviation in Covington. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the busiest airport in the world, anchors a multimodal transportation network that also includes an expanding port in Savannah and a robust interstate highway system. UGA's undergraduate certificate in aerospace engineering gives mechanical, electrical, and computer systems engineering students a path to aerospace credentials within their major. This position will expand that pathway and connect UGA students with the state's aerospace employers.
Additional Requirements
At least ten years of professional engineering experience in the aerospace industry, at a national laboratory, or in a government aerospace organization, including demonstrated technical leadership on aerospace systems, programs, or research.
Candidates considered for the associate or full clinical professor rank must have qualifications and credentials commensurate with the University of Georgia Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure of Academic Rank Faculty.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
