Description

The NSF REU Site: Urban Watershed Science at the University of Michigan-Dearborn provides undergraduate students with an interdisciplinary, 10-week summer research experience focused on understanding and addressing environmental challenges in urban watersheds. Using the Rouge River watershed in southeastern Michigan as a living laboratory, REU scholars work closely with faculty mentors on research spanning microbiology, biology, chemistry, geology, geospatial science, statistics, sociology, and related disciplines. Scholars gain hands-on experience in field and laboratory research, data collection and analysis, and scientific communication. The program also includes professional development and training in statistical and data analysis, GIS and spatial analysis, responsible conduct of research, graduate-school preparation, and research presentations. The summer culminates in a Capstone Poster Symposium where scholars present their research. Participants receive a $7,000 stipend, program-provided housing, and travel support.
