Description
The Waterfront & Aquatics Director leads the planning, delivery, and supervision of a safe, fun, and age-appropriate waterfront program at Lantern Light Camps. This role is responsible for evaluating the aquatics abilities of campers and staff, delivering creative swim and watercraft activities including rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing, and developing the program curriculum, awards programs, and leadership pathways in collaboration with the Assistant Camp Director and Waterfront Specialists. The Director trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates all waterfront staff — setting the standard for safety and program quality — and assists in the broader staff training process at the start of each season. In addition to waterfront-specific duties, the Director manages all physical facilities and equipment: conducting daily safety and cleanliness inspections, overseeing seasonal setup and breakdown, filing repair requests, managing inventory, and keeping the waterfront area clear of hazards. As a member of the camp leadership team, the Director also contributes to evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities, and participates in regular management meetings.
Requirements
Candidates must hold a current Certified Lifeguard Instructor credential recognized by the State of New Hampshire along with current First Aid and CPR certification. We can help arrange recertification as well. Prior experience designing and delivering recreational programs is required, and experience supervising peers or staff is strongly preferred. Candidates should be able to provide basic instruction in rowing, canoeing, kayaking, and sailing. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to schedule and develop a staff team, observe and manage camper and staff behavior, enforce safety protocols, and respond calmly and decisively in emergency situations such as fire, evacuation, illness, or injury. The role requires physical stamina for sustained outdoor work — including prolonged standing, bending, and active supervision — as well as the visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental hazards. This is a live-in, seasonal position; candidates must be comfortable working irregular hours and adapting to varied weather conditions throughout the camp season. We can help arrange additional trainings.
