Description
Job Summary:
The Finance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and leading all finance and accounting functions for the Humane Society. Job duties include payroll (timesheet reconciliation, health insurance deductions, HSA payments and retirement contributions), AR/AP, bank and credit card reconciliation, cash receipts and disbursements, deposits, journal entry, general ledger, restricted foundation grant fund monitoring/expense reconciliation, and monthly reporting to Finance Committee of Board and Executive Director, along with preparation of the year-end financial statements for the auditors. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Safeguarding organization assets and fiscal record keeping.
2. Assisting with the annual budgeting and planning process.
3. Overseeing all financial project/program and grants accounting and expenditures.
4. Monitoring organizational cash flow in partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
5. An important part of this role is coordinating all audit activity; consistently analyzing and preparing reports for senior management, the board of directors, external users, and government agencies, and monitoring department policies and procedures and recommending improvements.
6. The Finance Manager is also charged with ensuring that all fund accounting activities are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, legal, regulatory, and stated organizational procedures, as well as ensuring that the Finance Department supports the overall goals of the organization and that finance services are delivered professionally, accurately and efficiently.
Requirements
1. Preferred Associates or Bachelor Degree in accounting, finance or business management with an emphasis in accounting.
2. Minimum 2 years’ accrual accounting experience OR public accounting experience working with nonprofit clients and fund accounting.
3. Knowledge of and experience working with QuickBooks Online.
4. Experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
5. Working knowledge of GAAP and FASB pronouncements in relation to all nonprofit accounting, operating procedures and principles.
6. Keen analytic, organizational and problem solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reporting.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partners.
8. Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
9. Ability to work in a noisy, sometimes chaotic environment.
10. Highly organized, efficient and accurate.
