Key Details:
Compensation: $22-$24/hr DOE
Housing: Local applicants preferred; however, shared housing will be available to qualified non-local applicants.
Start Date: October 1, 2026
End Date: March 31, 2027
Location: near Albuquerque, NM
Additional Details: Vehicle mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate (for use of personal vehicle) or a rental vehicle plus gas reimbursement may be provided. Company vehicles are equipped with telematics systems for safety, operational efficiency, and compliance purposes. Schedule is anticipated to be 40 hours per week, for the duration of the project, though there may be weeks requiring shorter or longer hours depending on seasonal objectives.
Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct fatality monitoring surveys primarily for eagles beneath operating turbines. Successful candidates must be able to work in a rural field setting, work well both independently and with others, and follow field, data entry, and health and safety protocols. Technicians will need to provide their own binoculars and suitable safe-toed footwear.
Responsibilities include:
Post-construction fatality monitoring surveys at active wind sites
Participation in Searcher Efficiency Trials
Species identification of eagles and other avian species

Requirements
Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an equivalent degree preferred; undergraduates or other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply
Preference will be given for biologists experienced in avian fatality monitoring surveys and eagle identification
Precise and thorough data collection is essential
Must be able to use compass, global positioning system devices, binoculars, range finders, data collection tablets, and digital cameras; as well as maintain equipment.
Able to work independently or as part of a team, and interact positively with project manager, field supervisor, landowners, and other technicians
Employee must be able to appear for work on time (surveys can begin as early as sunrise)
Ability to maintain focus for long periods of time
Ability to follow instructions from manager and team leader
Ability to maintain positive attitude and accept guidance and constructive criticism
Must follow all WEST safety protocols
Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job-related activities
Technicians must be equipped with and provide their own binoculars and suitable safety toed footwear (steel or composite-toe), and clothing suitable for outdoor work in all elements
Physical Requirements:
Applicants must be in good physical condition and able to walk up to several miles. Surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme. Must be tolerant of biting or stinging insects.
Ability to walk long distances (10+ miles) in extreme heat and cold
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
After an offer of employment is made, the candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening, and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
