People and Carnivores

Company Overview

The People and Carnivores mission is to protect, reconnect and restore carnivore populations in the Northern Rocky Mountains by working with the region’s people to prevent human-carnivore conflicts. We develop, test, implement, and share tools and practices that reduce human-carnivore conflicts, enhancing both wildland and occupied habitats so that wild carnivores can move between current and potential habitats.

We are based in Bozeman and Helena, and have three field offices in western Montana.

Company History

People and Carnivores was founded in 1992 as Predator Project and began as a predator species advocacy and education group. In 2007 the nonprofit was named Keystone Conservation to express the addition of collaborative work with rural landowners to implement conflict prevention tools. In 2015, Keystone acquired another small group, People and Carnivores, and changed its name to People and Carnivores. Today, the organization engages is education, human-carnivore conflict prevention, community conservation, and advocacy.
