Company Profile
Clean River Partners
Company Overview
Clean River Partners is an environmental non-profit based in Northfield, MN. We envision a community that collaboratively creates and protects a watershed with healthy soils; drinkable groundwater; and clean, fishable, and swimmable rivers, lakes, and streams. We partner with people and organizations to value, protect, and improve the Cannon River Watershed’s land and water. Our core values of building resilience, acting equitably, engaging intentionally, and inspiring hope guide all of our work.
CRP operates two program areas: conservation and community engagement.
Our conservation program builds resilience in the watershed and its communities by promoting practices that are sustainable ecologically, economically, and culturally. Our major activities are
Supporting the adoption of conservation agricultural practices for farmers
Agricultural research, especially perennial crops
Habitat protection and restoration
Our community engagement program brings together local organizations and participants with activities that educate and inspire involvement in improving water, land, and climate health. Our major activities are
Volunteer opportunities
Community conversations
Education and skill-building
Company History
CRP began as the Cannon River Watershed Partnership in 1990, founded by community members to coordinate the 12 local government units (LGUs) that had responsibilities in the watershed, six county governments and six soil and water conservation districts (SWCDs). Over time, we stepped away from our formal role coordinating the LGUs, though we continue to collaborate regularly, and we changed our name to broaden our reach outside of our watershed.
We are a member-supported organization, and today, we have more than 400 active members from 76 communities. 15 of those members serve on our Board of Directors.
In 2023 we developed our strategic framework. We reflected with our Board, members, and residents on how CRP can better connect people to actions for clean water, thriving soils, and a livable climate–for ourselves and future generations.
Our strategic focus areas are
Water, Land, and Climate Health: Improve the environmental health of the CRW and the aquifers that support it by connecting, supporting, recognizing, and providing opportunities for residents, farmers, and landowners.
Community Relationships: Build relationships with individuals and organizations in the watershed, region, and state, and connect them to inspire shared actions.
Connections: Create opportunities for people to directly experience the land and water of the watershed.
Organizational Capacity: Strengthen our organizational capacity and capabilities.
