Allen Park is situated in the southern part of the Detroit Metropolitan Area, centrally located in Wayne County. It is bordered by Southgate, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, and Taylor. The city's strategic location offers easy access to downtown Detroit and Detroit Metropolitan Airport, and it is well- connected by major transportation arteries including I-94 and the Southfield Freeway
(M-39).
Allen Park’s location is a big attraction. You can easily be in Downtown Detroit for a sporting event, a concert, or dinner in less than 20 minutes. If you are traveling, you can be at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in about 15 minutes. Location is a great convenience.
Allen Park is home to the Detroit Lions Headquarters and Training Facility and the iconic Uniroyal Giant Tire, a historic roadside attraction from the 1964 World's Fair. Since 1966 it has been on display in Allen Park alongside I-94 .

Government
Allen Park operates under a council-manager government. The mayor and the six-member City Council serve four-year terms, with the City Clerk and Treasurer also elected for four-year terms. The City Administrator, appointed by the City Council, oversees daily operations, including supervision of all departments except the City Clerk and Treasurer. The City Administrator’s office includes the Administrator and an Administrative Assistant.

This annual community event attracts over 50,000 visitors to downtown Allen Park. The event features 200+ arts and craft vendors from across the United States, one stage with live bands, and eighteen+ food vendors. Additional gatherings include the Classic Car Show and Downtown Farmers Market, which bring the community together in a vibrant downtown.
The City of Allen Park publishes a quarterly magazine for residents and businesses that share information and promote the local community.
Housing
Most of the housing development in Allen Park occurred prior to 1960. The oldest subdivisions in the city, such as Estate Allen Park and Mercedes Park, were platted prior to Allen Park’s inception as a Village in 1927. Some of these older homes were removed to make room for Allen Park’s central business district in the Roosevelt, Allen, and Southfield Roads area. The more recent residential neighborhoods in the city were platted in the years following the incorporation of the city in 1957. Single-family detached homes are predominant (81 percent) in the city’s housing stock. Housing is currently in demand.
