Description

Normandeau Associates, Inc., one of the nation’s largest science-based environmental consulting firms, is seeking a full-time mid-level Water Resources Scientist. This position will be based in our Bedford, NH office, with an emphasis on water resources, water quality, and related regulatory compliance and permitting services in New Hampshire and the northeastern states.

Qualified candidates will have experience in conducting water quality field work, including use of field instrumentation, water quality sample collection, will have experience with maintaining water quality datasets, and will have strong reporting and data presentation skills.

Job Details

The successful candidate will have the following job responsibilities: 

  • Task/field leader for conducting shore-based and boat-based surface water quality data collection utilizing deployed and mobile instrumentation in accordance with written study plans and standard operating procedures;
  • Task/field leader for collecting water samples from surface waters and groundwater wells using a variety of techniques and sampling equipment in accordance with written study plans and standard operating procedures;
  • Task manager/project manager for smaller projects;
  • Assist with data processing, data Quality Control, and data analysis using MS Excel, Matlab, SAS, R or other programs;
  • Produce GIS maps and manage GIS project data;
  • Write technical data reports, create data figures, and present data summaries;
  • Assist with study planning, developing QC procedures and documents, and permit application writing;
  • Assist with benthic characterization and sampling;
  • Assist with stream surveying/physical habitat characterization;
  • Complete general field work assignments supporting other projects including wetlands, wildlife, fisheries, and marine field studies;
  • Maintain great attention to detail & the willingness/ability to work in a team as well as alone in a variety of field settings, including off-road/off-trail locations.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have excellent field data collection, management, and reporting skills for water quality projects, as well as the ability to independently manage project assignments, and communicate effectively with senior project managers to ensure project schedules and budgets are adhered to.  Local and regional travel is required as is the ability to work from and (preferably) operate a boat, and lift/carry moderately heavy equipment at project sites.  A proven ability for troubleshooting, problem solving, and critical thinking is essential for the successful candidate. Occasional overtime, weekend, or evening work may also be required if necessary to meet deadlines.

Candidates should have a minimum of a M.S in Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Water Resources Management, Environmental Engineering, Ecology, or related Environmental Science degree.  A minimum of one year’s previous work experience is preferred. Candidates with a B.S. in the appropriate degree in any of the fields described above and 3 or more year’s work experience will also be considered.
