Senior Evidence Specialist
Department: Institutional Assets
Supervisor: Manager, Evidence
Status: Exempt, Full-time
Location: Remote
Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Position Summary:

The Senior Evidence Specialist will be responsible for conducting literature searches to support the development of IFM programs and educational materials. The position-holder will leverage clinical subject matter expertise to facilitate translation of evidence into medical education and clinical practice content. The Senior Evidence Specialist will assist the Manager, Evidence in project managing cross-functional evidence curation activities.


Under the direction of the Manager of Evidence, this role is responsible for:
• Performing medical literature reviews and evaluating published evidence
• Using clinical knowledge to review educational content and its corresponding bibliographies
• Project management of IFM curation efforts and other evidence-related projects

Essential Functions:
Literature Reviews and Evidence Evaluation
• Execute medical literature searches and draft literature summaries to support the development of IFM educational content while upholding copyright law and policy;
• Assess the quality of citations and other resources to communicate strength of evidence, risk of harm and overall suitability to support clinical recommendations and educational materials.

Educational Content and Bibliography Review
• Utilize clinical subject matter expertise to review and promote alignment of educational materials and citations;
• Collaborate with staff members across departments, program speakers, and reviewers to ensure that content incorporates functional medicine evidence standards;
• When applicable, collaborate with the Accreditation Team to ensure adherence to the rules and standards for Continuing Medical Education and other professional continuing education requirements.

Project Management
• Act in a leadership capacity to guide team members in evidence curation-related work;
• Develop project plans, manage project scope, schedule, and stakeholder communication for evidence-related activities;
• Assist the Manager, Evidence in creating and refining processes to support the maintenance of functional medicine evidence standards across the organization.

Other functions:
• Perform educational content writing and revision support as needed;
• This role may perform duties not listed in the essential functions, but which are essential to the Senior Evidence Specialist.

Job Specifications
Education, Licenses, Certificates and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or relevant health-related field required.
• Master’s degree in Nutrition or advanced degree in relevant health-related field preferred.
• 3+ years' experience in literature curation.
• Experience in functional medicine or functional nutrition strongly preferred.
• Remote work experience strongly preferred.

Skills Required:
• Expert-level literature curation skills, with mastery in an end-to-end process to design a Research Question, execute a PubMed search, organize and evaluate evidence, and draft research summaries for stakeholders.
• Clinical subject matter expertise in one or more areas of human health, knowledge of dietary and lifestyle interventions, knowledge of natural products and supplements, knowledge of human physiology and pathophysiology.
• Experience leading projects with multiple stakeholders to achieve stated milestones and objectives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to convey complex concepts to directors, peers, colleagues, external parties, and learners.
• Strong process orientation: Track record of creating new processes and structure to solve complex challenges.
• Flexible and adaptable to changing processes, systems, and priorities.
• Highly organized professional work style with a track record of successfully managing competing deadlines.
• Collaborates with peers and organizational leaders on processes, goals, schedules, and outcomes.
• Able to work independently with track record of showing initiative and creativity.
• Expertise with MS Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); willingness and ability to adapt to new technologies and software, including Adobe Creative Cloud suite, Asana, Airtable, and RightFind.
