About the Position
The Illinois Environmental Council Education Fund (IECEF) is looking for a self-motivated and experienced individual for the role of Sr. Manager of Organizing, Energy. This role is responsible for leading a new effort for IEC, where we work at the local level to support the deployment of renewable energy across Illinois. This person will utilize organizing and communications tactics to advance clean energy projects through public education and grasstops organizing.
This role will be supervised by IEC’s Sr. Manager of Communications.
This position is fully remote, with the ability to travel to suburban and downstate locations frequently. Illinois residency is required. The position is full-time and will include evening and weekend work and extensive travel within Illinois.

Responsibilities
The Senior Manager of Campaigns will be responsible for leading IEC’s newest local-level advocacy efforts to expand renewable energy deployment across Illinois. This role will focus on building grasstops and grassroots support for clean energy, influencing local decision-makers, and coordinating with partners to advance clean energy adoption at the local level.
- Design and implement IEC’s campaign strategy to persuade county boards and local governments to approve renewable energy projects
- Identify, recruit, and mobilize community leaders and members and local organizations to advocate for renewable energy development
- Attend and represent IEC at local board, zoning, and planning meetings related to renewable energy projects
- Develop accessible materials, fact sheets, and presentations to educate communities, elected officials, and stakeholders about the benefits of renewable energy
- Design and deliver “Train the Trainer” workshops to equip partners and volunteers with the skills to advocate effectively in their own communities
- Collaborate with statewide and regional partners, renewable developers, and local advocates to ensure alignment and coordinated messaging
- Work with IEC’s communications team to craft local narratives, support media outreach, and create digital content highlighting success stories and addressing misinformation
- Track campaign outcomes, maintain engagement metrics, and report progress toward goals to IEC leadership and funders
- Partner closely with IEC’s programs, development, and communications teams to ensure local campaign work supports broader organizational strategies

About Our Pay and Benefits
The Sr. Manager of Campaigns is a full-time permanent remote position located in Illinois. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, a 401(k) plan, and vacation. Salary range is $70,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience. Cover letter MUST include salary requirements. Requirements
Qualifications
- Experience or interest in public interest work, advocacy, community organizing, or lawmaking
- Passion for environmental advocacy, democracy, environmental justice
- Excellent project management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups and people
- Commitment to and knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion, and allyship work
- Proficiency using both the Microsoft and Google software suites
- Highly organized
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and work independently
- Interest in environmental issues and policies
- Issue expertise in environmental issues
- Proven understanding of legislative process in IL General Assembly
- Strong writing skills — able to draft concise summaries, briefs, or reports
- Preferred qualification: experience utilizing Voter Access Network (VAN) and/or EveryAction
