Description
PURPOSE
The Director of Safety/Security (DOS) reports directly to the President/General Manager on safety and security related matters. The Safety Advocate for the company, advises, and assists company managers in complying with applicable Federal, State, and Local aviation and safety/security regulations in accordance with company policies and procedures as outlined within the company manual systems.
RESPONSIBILTIES
This position will be responsible for representing the company during inspections, taking the lead role in all safety/security related audits.
The DOS manages the company Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with 14 CFR Part 5, the Internal Evaluation Program (IEP), the Emergency Response Program (ERP), all aspects of company Environmental Health and Safety, and any other current or future-implemented safety-related programs.
Safety Policy, Safety Promotion, Safety Assurance and Safety Risk Management IAW 14 CFR Part 5.
Autonomy & Decision-Making: Makes decisions within defined limits of authority and consults supervisor, as necessary.
Must interact with operation personnel, and leadership throughout the organization, and foster positive relationships with regulatory authorities, agencies, and service provides outside the organization.
Develop, implement, manage, and continually improve the SMS.
Design, publish, and implement program-specific addendums to the SMS Manual.
Administer and continually improve the Emergency Response Plan, inclusive of program-specific addendums.
Develop and implement applicable training materials to ensure the effectiveness of the SMS, IEP, ERP, and the growth of safety culture.
Ambassador/Represents the organization on government, international organization, and industry committees (e.g., ICAO, IATA, CAA, AIB, etc.) as the pertain to Safety.
Maintain close contact with CONUS and OCONUS personnel to identify safety and environmental hazards, risks, and promote the reduction or elimination of potentially hazardous conditions that may lead to accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety-related financial losses.
Provides analyses trends and advises the team on all safety related matters that could impact operations.
Initiate, oversee and participate in the Aviation Safety Committee.
Administer Internal Evaluation Program
Ensure all safety-related investigations are completed in a thorough and timely manner.
Collaborate closely with Supervisors and Human Resources in coordination of information for all on the job injuries.
Ensure all applicable Safety posters in all communal areas are up to date and pertinent to industry.
Ensure all employees are issued and utilize job specific Personal Protection Equipment as required.
Create and maintain a current Emergency Evacuation Route.
Provide support to management regarding safety regulations.
Manage accurate and timely reporting to any relevant organizations.
Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Develop, implement, and maintain programs as they pertain to workplace safety.
Work with management to develop safety related goals and targets and track progress towards them.
The DOS acts independently of other managers but must work in conjunction with them.
Maintain flexibility with schedule for assignments outside of normal working hours.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
SMS Course Certificate
Experience with Avianis, Portside, Baldwin, Vocus
Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
Bachelor’s degree in safety management or equivalent work experience (five to ten years).
Exhibits a professional manner and attitude and copes well with changing circumstances and situations with little supervision.
Experience with risk management.
Strong organizational skills to manage and track safety records, reports, and documentation.
Proficient with MS Office products.
Ability to remain calm and make clear decisions in emergency situations.
Ability to communicate, promote, and influence a culture of safety.
