About the Role
The Planner / Zoning Administrator serves as a key member of the County's Community Development team. Reporting to the Community Development Director, this position is responsible for administering and interpreting zoning ordinances, reviewing development applications, supporting planning initiatives, and assisting residents and businesses with land use questions and requirements.
Responsibilities
Interpret and administer County zoning ordinances and land use regulations.
Review zoning compliance applications, site plans, special land use permits, rezoning requests, and variance applications.
Conduct site inspections related to zoning compliance and development proposals.
Assist in the preparation and revision of zoning ordinances and planning documents.
Serve as a resource for residents, developers, contractors, business owners, and local officials.
Prepare reports and presentations for the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and County Board of Commissioners.
Investigate zoning complaints and work collaboratively toward compliance.
Coordinate planning projects and support community development initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Community Development, Public Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered
Minimum three (3) years of planning and zoning experience at the county or municipal level
Experience reviewing site plans, special land use applications, rezoning requests, variance applications, and development proposals.
Valid Michigan driver's license.
