Division Chief of Pediatric Radiologist

Pediatric Radiology Division, Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, Clinical “X” or Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series

The UC Davis School of Medicine, Department of Radiology is seeking qualified candidates for a Division Chief of Diagnostic Pediatric Radiology in the Professor of Clinical "X" Series or Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series, at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank (commensurate with experience and credentials). Appointment of this leadership position is contingent upon a successful nomination.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical "X" Series: The incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and university service. Excellent teaching is essential for appointment in this series.

Criteria for the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series: The incumbent will be expected to teach fellows, residents, and medical students; provide patient care; contribute to scholarly activities; and provide public and university service.

Candidates must possess an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree and must be fellowship trained in pediatric radiology. Candidates must be board-certified in diagnostic radiology and possess or be eligible for a CAQ in pediatric radiology. Candidates must have a documented interest in research and teaching with excellent track record in scholarly activities. Candidates must be licensed or be eligible for full licensure in California. Expertise in most aspects of general pediatric radiology (excluding neuroradiology, interventional radiology, and nuclear medicine) is required.

Clinical responsibilities include all areas of pediatric radiology (radiographs, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, and MRI). Clinical service coverage is divided between UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Daily and call coverage is divided equally among all faculty within the division. Most teaching is conducted during daily read out sessions with residents. Pediatric Radiology faculty also share in the division’s responsibility to deliver didactic and case-based conferences to Radiology residents and medical students rotating in Radiology. The group participates actively in multidisciplinary conferences.

A qualified candidate will be nominated for the administrative role as the Division Chief of Pediatric Radiology. To be given consideration for this administrative role, a candidate must demonstrate experience in clinical operations, and a strong interest in mentorship, research, and teaching is required. The successful candidate will be a leader in the field with a reputation in academic leadership and clinical excellence. The candidate will report directly to the Chair of Radiology and will be a member of the departmental leadership team. The division chief will participate in departmental strategic planning and operations. Within the Pediatric Radiology division, the chief will oversee the day-to-day clinical operations of the division, mentor faculty, promote research, coordinate educational programs and work collaboratively with other faculty and division chiefs within the radiology department as well as in UCD’s Pediatric Hospital.

The candidate will be expected to provide leadership, management and motivation to the division and make decisions in an inclusive, collaborative environment. They will foster professional and academic excellence in division faculty, including actively seeking and implementing methods to improve performance and morale and providing support and guidance for academic advancement, faculty development and research endeavors. The candidate will set annual division goals to achieve and provide a strategic plan for staffing, clinical growth and achievement of academic missions: education, teaching and research. Directing specialty training programs for medical students, residents, and fellows and actively participate in educational planning and governance is expected. Additionally, they will create policies and establish clinical workflows and protocols to improve patient care and satisfaction and maintain division responsibilities and guidelines.

The Department of Radiology performs approximately 400,000 examinations per year and has 45 full-time faculty, including 7 pediatric radiologists. The department has state-of-the-art equipment, including new MRI scanners and a brand-new pediatric fluoroscopy suite. It is the country’s first adopter of the new ultra high-resolution Cannon CT scanner. The new EXPLORER Total-body PET/CT scanner offers abundant research opportunities. Both UC Davis Health and Shriners Hospitals for Children offer EOS imaging systems for ultra low-dose radiography. UC Davis Health is the first children’s hospital on the west coast and the fourth in the nation to be designated a center for Children’s Surgery Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (CSPIPS).

Sacramento is at the heart of Northern California and is close to such attractions as San Francisco, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, Monterey, and Yosemite. The salary range for this position is $340,000 – $415,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan
