The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for inspecting and ensuring the quality and compliance of welded structures and components in accordance with the American Welding Society (AWS) codes, project specifications, and applicable industry standards. The CWI works closely with project managers, fabricators, engineers, and clients to ensure all welding operations meet safety, quality, and performance requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welded joints and assemblies to verify compliance with AWS D1.1 and other applicable codes.
Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and related documentation for conformance to project specifications.
Monitor welding activities on-site and in fabrication shops to ensure proper techniques and procedures are followed.
Document inspection results clearly and accurately, including photographs, inspection reports, and deficiency logs.
Identify and report welding defects or non-conformities; verify corrective actions and rework as necessary.
Participate in pre-construction and progress meetings to provide technical guidance related to welding and inspection.
Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and welding symbols to assess compliance and verify fabrication details.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, including AWS, ASME, AISC, and project-specific criteria.
Ensure safe work practices are followed at all times in the field and in fabrication environments.
Requirements
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS DESIRED
Additional NDT Level II certifications (PT, MT, UT, RT) a plus.
Previous experience inspecting bridge, pipeline, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AISC Quality Certification Program.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is an asset.
ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
NICET certification in Construction Materials Testing (Soils, Concrete, or Asphalt)
Nuclear Gauge Safety Training, preferred
Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and codes (IBC, ACI, ASTM, etc.).
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Able to lift 50lbs without assistance.
