The School of Agricultural Sciences & Forestry at Louisiana Tech University seeks a full-time
Assistant Greenhouse Laboratory Supervisor. The successful candidate will support the Greenhouse
Laboratory Supervisor in the operation of the School's expansive teaching and research
horticultural facilities to cultivate multiple and diverse plant crops.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Greenhouse Laboratory Supervisor supports the Greenhouse Laboratory Supervisor and is involved in all aspects of year-round plant cultivation. Assists in the
production of an annual poinsettia crop, plus crops of bedding plants, vegetables, herbs,
ornamental plants, and more. Contributes to maintenance of related horticultural facilities,
including a> 20,000 ft2 production greenhouse complex comprised of 26 growing rooms, additional
hoop houses, raised garden beds, demonstration/teaching gardens, and associated storage areas.
Helps maintain the functionality of all equipment and environmental control systems. Trains,
organizes, and manages student workers to complete varied greenhouse tasks, including the safe
mixing and application of pesticides according to EPA labels. Conducts safety trainings for
authorized users working within the greenhouses and related facilities. Provides teaching/research
support for projects or courses directed by plant science or forestry faculty. Periodically
conducts interpretive tours of the facilities, and assists in public outreach activities. Interacts
professionally and productively with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS: B.S. degree is required. B.S. degree in Plant Science, Horticulture, or similar field is preferred. Evidence of general and practical horticultural knowledge and relevant horticultural experience that includes plant propagation and the use/maintenance of growing facilities.
Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in a team setting. Flexibility in work scheduling is a
must, including weekends.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with education and professional experience.
