Waterfront Director for Raquette Lake Boys Camp
Raquette Lake Boys Camp is seeking a Waterfront Director to live, work and play with us at one of the finest residential summer camps in America. The Waterfront Director will be a member of our senior staff and the position comes with appropriate compensation, all expenses covered, private housing, and time off.
The Waterfront Director will oversee all waterfront lake activities, with a primary focus on swimming and swim staff, ensuring the safety of all participants.
DATES: June 8 - August 13, 2026
SALARY: Starting compensation begins at $7500 and will increase based on experience. Room and board are included and travel allowances are also available.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Be at least 21-years-old
- Current Red Cross Certification in LGT, WSI, CPR, first aid (or willingness to obtain), and experience in teaching/supervising waterfront activities.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Management or willingness to take course
- Previous experience as an Aquatics Director at a New York summer camp OR previous experience consisting cumulatively of at least 12 weeks as a children’s camp lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time OR at least 18 weeks experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach with more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time (Department of Health Regulation)
- Ability to set up demonstration areas and program and to teach skills to staff and campers of all ages.
- Ability to supervise staff, make scheduling assignments and order supplies and equipment.
- Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
- Ability to relate to one’s peer group.
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
- Good character, integrity and ability to adapt to camp setting.
- Enthusiasm, sense humor, patience and self-control.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To plan, direct and supervise the Swim Area and other activities as appropriate.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for set up of Waterfront area during staff training.
- Ensure compliance with all Department of Health, American Camp Association, and Department of Environmental Conservation regulations on the waterfront
- Teach daily swim lessons following the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Learn to Swim Program
- Test staff and teach then their responsibilities during staff training.
- Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
- Conduct initial and end of season inventory and store equipment for safety.
- Create check-out and return system for equipment and materials.
- Check equipment and make (or file for) repairs.
- Conduct daily check of program areas and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair.
- Secure all equipment and the area when the Waterfront is closed.
- Write (with help of activity assistants) and check all lesson plans for Waterfront activities.
- Plan and direct camp-wide Waterfront activities such as swim meets, general swims and special day events.
- Assist with overall camp activities regarding the Waterfront areas. Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of packing all materials and supplies at end of the season.
- Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment, supplies and program for following season.
- Update written plan for activities as needed.
- Upgrade training, as appropriate.
- Submit Emergency Action Plan to administration during staff training.
- Participate in post-camp clean-up, inventory and evaluation
- These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
