Description
Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (District) has an exciting opportunity for an emerging professional to provide assistance to full-time District staff with the management and administration of the watercourse maintenance projects, capital design & construction contracts, and other activities currently being undertaken by the Watercourse Section of the Technical Services Division.
The intern will gain:
- Experience with field work on watercourse projects and vegetation management.
- Skills with managing construction & design contract work.
- Enhanced project management administration and communication skills.
- Improved skills using GIS software.
- Familiarity with asset management software.
- Familiarity with hydrological modeling.
- Infrastructure inspection.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will assist with field and related office work. Work will include assisting in the oversight and administration of the watercourse maintenance program and assisting with watercourse maintenance tasks, both in the field and in the office. The intern will also be involved with the management of watercourse assets. Other assignments include conducting routine inspections of District jurisdictional watercourse channels and non-routine inspections in response to issues received by the District.
Requirements
The student should be pursuing a degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a degree related to water resources or environmental sciences and have above-average computer skills. GIS experience is preferred. Native and invasive plant identification is a plus. A valid driver's license and a good driving record at time of application, during the selection process, and throughout the internship is required.
Supplemental Information:
This 12-week summer internship is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
