The City of Crest Hill is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Superintendent of the Wastewater Division. Reporting to the Director of Public Works, this leadership position oversees the City’s wastewater treatment operations, including treatment plants, lift stations, and related infrastructure.
With a new Director of Public Works appointed in 2025, the Department is building on a strong foundation and focused on the road ahead. The Superintendent leads the daily operations of the Wastewater Division, supervises division personnel, monitors treatment processes, and ensures compliance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations while maintaining efficient and reliable system performance.

Recent investments include a modern Public Works facility built in 2019, a new wastewater treatment plant nearing completion, and a 40,000-square-foot City Center housing municipal offices. The City also features a robust industrial park anchored by Amazon and expanding commercial districts supported by two TIF districts with a third in development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and direct the daily operations of the Wastewater Division.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate wastewater treatment personnel.
- Serve as the Responsible Operator in Charge for the City’s wastewater facilities.
- Monitor treatment processes and analyze operating data to maintain efficient plant performance.
- Ensure compliance with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, and operational improvements.
- Administer SCADA and other operational technology systems used at wastewater facilities.
- Assist in developing operational budgets and monitoring expenditures.
- Plan and implement wastewater construction and maintenance projects.
- Prepare reports and present information to City leadership and City Council.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Illinois Class I Wastewater Operator Certification required.
- Thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment operations, regulatory requirements, and public works practices.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience operating a wastewater treatment facility.
- Municipal public works experience preferred.
- Valid Driver’s license required; CDL preferred.
