Who we are: New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future is 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2005 with a mission to “promote sustainability in rural communities to ensure a healthy future for all”. We educate through a variety of programs and resources, demonstrate sustainable living practices, and advocate for strategies to support healthy ecosystems, locally and globally.
Who you are: New Pioneers seeks temporary, contracted instructors to lead lessons at our annual summer day camp, hosted June 9-12, 2026, at the Loretto Motherhouse Farm in Nerinx, KY. Camp instructors will lead activities prepared by camp staff - or creatively develop their own, if desired - providing outdoor, environmental education to youth ages 6-12 during daily rotations.
Focused Responsibilities:
- Leads outdoor, environmental education activities for youth during the “Where the Wild Things Are” Day Camp in 4 daily rotations of 45-60 minutes (final schedule pending)*
- Collaborate with New Pioneers’ staff to fill in additional camp roles during camp hours, as needed
- Assist youth with preparing a final camp celebration presented to parents/guardians and the final camp service project in tandem with the Loretto Community
* New Pioneers has prepared an “activity menu” for instructor use. Each instructor will select activities from this “menu” to meet each day’s theme and will tailor activities to each age group.
Requirements
- Experience working with children and/or leading environmental education preferred
- Ability to adapt lessons from templates required
- Ability to bend, sit, stand, stoop, walk on uneven terrain outside and lift 30 lbs
- Must pass a background check with no violent criminal history nor sex offender charges
- Must attend a citizen CPR/first aid training prior to camp, organized by New Pioneers, and be willing to perform CPR/first aid at camp if needed
- Must attend in-person training prior to camp
- Must attend camp June 9-12, 2026 from 9-3 p.m. - with availability from 8-9 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. for additional preparations/clean up, if needed - in a total outdoor setting
