We are a high-quality spay/neuter clinic that believes high-volume does not have to mean high-stress. Our relief shifts are intentionally designed to be sustainable, predictable, and respectful of veterinarians and staff. You will spend your surgery day alongside our two experienced RVTs and vet assistant.

$100/hour
Approximately 7:30am–2:00pm with a real lunch break
Around 20 surgeries

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Other duties may be assigned

Medical Services and Management

Performs examination and sterilization surgeries and other surgical procedures as necessary.
Provides follow-up examinations as needed.
Record information regarding animal health, treatment, medical history, and controlled substances used in compliance with federal, state, local and other regulatory guidelines.
Provides direction to Registered Veterinary Technicians, veterinary assistants, and volunteers during surgical procedures and recovery.
Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of veterinary protocols and procedures for the Clinic.
Health and Safety Management

Assists in monitoring safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at risk.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently licensed in the State of California to practice veterinary medicine.
Knowledge of current veterinary theory and practice.
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the veterinary care of animals.
Minimum of two years experience in a clinical or shelter setting; non-profit mission-based experience preferred.
Skilled in the use of computers – preferably in a Windows-based operating environment.
Strong communication skills in the areas of instruction, training and teambuilding and in interacting with the public and external stakeholders, such as contract representatives, clients and donors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical efforts require prolonged standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and assist in the lifting and/or moving of up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

SUMMARY OF ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to loud noise, odors, fumes, chemicals and animal waste.
Walks on paved and unpaved surfaces and flooring that may be uneven and may be wet or dry.
Exposure to controlled substances, needles, syringes and other supplies used in the pre- and post-operative treatment and the vaccination of animals.
Exposure to animals that are agitated that may attempt to bite or scratch.
