We are currently looking for a Senior Buyer to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Senior Buyer is responsible for the Plant Purchases of technically correct parts with acceptable quality, at the best price & terms of delivery.
Task and Responsibilities:
SAFETY:
- Comply with all applicable safety policies and regulation, especially when in the manufacturing areas or the yard.
- Make sure all suppliers and other visitors follow visitor safety protocol. Purchase PPE to provide maximum safety to employees.
- Ensure that all material have an approved MSDS sheet on file.
QUALITY:
- Issue P.O.'s for technically correct parts with acceptable quality, and optimum price and terms of delivery.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate SAP records for standard costs of material.
ON-TIME DELIVERY:
- Ensure materials and services are procured in a timely manner
- Execute sourcing to meet Production schedules.
- When necessary, expedite deliveries of critically required materials, including product and MRO items.

COST:
- Negotiate best possible pricing for purchased materials and services.
- Manage inventory within established targets.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and inventory reduction.
- Investigate variances and implement corrective actions to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Identify and evaluate new sources of supply.
- Proposes, monitors, and controls inventory levels with minimum and maximum quantities
- Assist in estimating by supplying material costs and deliveries
PEOPLE:
- Communicate and work with all internal and external customers.
- Manage the approved supply chain by measuring and communicating performance of suppliers related to quality, delivery and cost Liaises with Quality Manager in the qualifications of potential suppliers.
ENVIRONMENTAL:
- Adhere to Nortrak's Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Operations Planning, or an equivalent field is required.
- Progress toward Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) accreditation is considered an asset.
- Additional certifications such as APICS (AETCS), CPP, MBA, CPM, or APICS are desirable.
- Minimum of 5+ years of direct procurement experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of MRP processes.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing setting is advantageous.
- Working knowledge of procurement legal aspects and contract law.
- Familiarity with SAP is preferred.
- Ability to interpret work orders and blueprints is desirable.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
- Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times.
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional travel may be required which includes walking, standing, sitting and driving from short to long periods of time.
