Overall Function
EDF+Business seeks a highly motivated Senior Analyst to join our Energy Transition team focused on energy system decarbonization. The Senior Analyst will be a key member of the team, conducting research and analysis on the global oil and gas industry, engaging the financial community and energy industry on methane emissions, and supporting program management and strategy to equip key partners with the tools to accelerate urgent action to cut emissions. This role will contribute to real-world engagement with partners around the world, supporting dialogue among governments, diplomatic representatives, development finance institutions, banks, investors, and national as well as international oil companies. The focus is on constructive solutions — capacity building, financing pathways, and policy cooperation — that help to secure meaningful emissions reductions from those with the power to act.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Analyst will work with the Director, Energy Transition. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct original research and analysis that expands EDF's presence, voice, and expertise in topics such as oil and gas emissions reductions, national oil companies, and sustainable finance.
- Help translate research into clear, accessible materials such as short country briefs, stakeholder maps, and discussion notes for senior meetings and international workshops.
- Produce, author, and present briefing papers, talking points, presentations, reports and external facing publications tailored to government, investor, and corporate audiences, through briefing calls, webinars, workshops, and conferences.
- Support coordination with partner organizations in key countries to further constructive engagement and relationship building with a variety of external stakeholders.
- Help build strategies that position methane mitigation as part of a near-term, economically viable solution in the energy transition.
- Contribute to fundraising proposals, donor reporting, data analyses, communications strategy, and other internal and external communications.
- Participate in advancing EDF organizational effectiveness and culture goals so people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in ways that align with EDF values.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in environmental science, economics, energy, public policy or related fields with at least 4 years of relevant experience. A Master's degree or equivalent may substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience as an analyst, consultant or in a project management role, with an energy, policy, finance, consulting or climate background.
- Strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in performing rigorous, technical research with robust attention to detail.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills with the skillset to communicate complex information simply and compellingly to varied audiences.
- Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across all cultures and backgrounds.
- General knowledge of the oil and gas industry, national oil companies, energy transition, sustainable finance, international climate/energy policy, etc. is desirable.
- Proficiency in the use of PCs and the Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Fluency in English required; additional language proficiency (French, Spanish, Arabic, etc.) also beneficial but not required.
