Position DescriptionSeattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation's largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Over the years we have worked very hard to keep Seattle's electricity affordable, reliable, and environmentally sound. Today, City Light is a recognized national leader in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Seattle City Light's Power Supply division is looking for a Power Analyst to join the team. Under supervision from the manager, this position will provide support for City Light's current and evolving organized market participation. The Power Analyst will participate in stakeholder processes related to various organized market initiatives on behalf of City Light. This role will also conduct and/or assist with research and analysis and develop recommendations and strategies related to energy resource strategies and our current and future organized market participation. The Power Analyst will conduct analysis and evaluation of market design components and policies and develop issue briefs, recommendations, and decisional documents for City Light leadership. The position will also support City Light's successful integration into a day-ahead market. This position reports to the Manager of Power Contracts & Regional Affairs.
Job Responsibilities

This position, under the supervision of the manager will be responsible for analyzing, modelling, researching, and recommending options and strategies for City Light's energy and transmission supply portfolio. Duties of this Power Analyst position include but are not limited to:
- Review and analyze energy market design options in both CAISO's WEIM/EDAM and SPP's Markets+.
- Perform studies and evaluate potential outcomes of City Light's participation in emerging energy markets.
- Build and maintain models and tools to help inform and optimize City Light's existing and future energy and transmission portfolio in an organized market.
- Provide technical and project management support for City Light's analysis of future organized market participation.
- Research federal, state, and local policies and trends in the electric power industry to evaluate the impact on City Light's electric generation portfolio.
- Participate in regional energy market policy and analytic activities.
- Perform other related duties of comparable level/type as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Experience: Three years' experience as an Assistant Power Analyst or experience in power management, commercial transmission, energy markets, power marketing, utility operations, or engineering.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Math, Policy, or other fields relating to Job Responsibilities and Desired Qualifications (Other combinations of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- Work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.
- May be required to travel to remote locations or long distances to meetings.
License, Certification and Other Requirements:
- Current Washington State driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Additional Information
The full salary range for this position is $58.95 - $68.77 per hour.
