The Position:

Primary Purpose
The Superintendent of Schools provides leadership to coordinate and supervise the effective operation of the school district. To accomplish these tasks, the Superintendent works closely with the Board of Education, community, staff, and administration of the district.
Qualifications
Education/Certification(s)/License(s):
Valid required Kansas professional licensure.
Three years certified experience as an administrator.
Valid Kansas driver’s licenseNecessary management and business skills to provide direction and leadership for the useand management of district resources.
Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating theeffective operation of the school district.
Establish an optimum working and learning environment within the district.
Ensure that all school programs and activities conform to federal, state, and districtguidelines.
Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
Work effectively with community organizations.
React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
Support the value of an education.
Support the philosophy and mission of the district.
Experience in instructional leadership roles

Essential Job Functions
Duties/Responsibilities:
1.Oversee the general operation of the school district.
2.Administer and comply with all district policies, rules, and regulations.
3.Provide leadership, information, and recommendations to assist the Board of Education inmaking prudent decisions regarding the operation and management of the schools.
4.Supervise the development and administration of the annual school district budget.
5.Recommend the use of funds for emergency purposes that have not been specifically identifiedin the budget.
6. Develop a functioning educational philosophy consistent with the values of the community, teachers, school administration, and Board of Education.
7. Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff, administration, and the board of education.
8. Promote a productive working relationship between the school district and its patrons.
9. Develop an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school district.
10. Recognize and encourage outstanding performance by persons within the school district.
11. Conduct the annual evaluations of all administrators and directors who report directly to the superintendent, including assistant superintendents and building principals.
12. Authorize all final employment recommendations to the Board of Education.
13. Provide leadership in planning and organizing staff development activities designed to promote more effective leadership, improve communication, and upgrade instruction.
14. Develop a comprehensive curriculum and program of services in cooperation with staff and administration.
15. Establish a comprehensive program for the evaluation and improvement of the operations of the school district.
16. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements of the various governmental agencies.
17. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques in education, district leadership, and other relevant areas.
18. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
19. Perform all duties required by state and federal statutes and by Board of Education policy and action.
20. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Education.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of staff assigned to district including assistant principal(s), teachers, counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
