Growing togetherUnitedHealthcare's Medical Policy team seeks a skilled and experienced Medical Policy Director to support the development and maintenance of Medical policies. This individual will be responsible for directing a team of epidemiologists and nurses to write new medical policies, adapting them to different health plans, and maintaining them over time using the latest published medical literature. The ideal candidate will have experience in directing a team of epidemiologists and clinicians in writing and publishing scientific content, such as medical policies or similar research publications.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of one Associate Director and several policy writers, including epidemiologists and nurses
- Ensure that all content adheres to industry standards of quality and is completed within strict deadlines
- Ensure timely submission of new or updated medical policy to the governance committees
- Develop and maintain visual tools to monitor timely completion of task and compliance deadlines
- Collaborate with a larger team of medical policy writers, physicians, policy publication, and implementation experts
- Guide and support continuous refinement and evolution of the medical policy development and maintenance process to drive industry-leading quality, top-of-talent work, and optimal use of modern content development and publication tools

Years of post-high school education can be substituted/is equivalent to years of experience
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in directing a team of policy writers, researchers, or scientists, in the production of scientific content
- Proven success in team development and management
- Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven detail-oriented with exceptional organizational abilities and a meticulous approach to planning work for a team of researchers and scientists
- Proven solid time management skills
- Proven ability to make strategic, operational and administrative decisions in response to emerging conditions and environmental circumstances
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a large and diverse team
- Proven proactive attitude with a willingness to learn, innovate, and adapt in a fast-paced setting
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience setting up and maintaining quality control systems and compliance standards

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $134,600 to $230,800 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
