The Gund Institute for Environment at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks exceptional PhD applicants to conduct interdisciplinary research on environmental challenges beginning in fall 2027. Applications are due Jan. 5, 2027. 
 
The Gund Institute is a research center that mobilizes scholars and decision makers to understand and solve critical and interconnected environmental challenges. Driven by the belief that research should inspire action, the Institute takes a cross-sector approach to solving environmental issues with stakeholders from government, business, and broader society.
 
Funded students will receive four years of funding, including an annual stipend of $37,000, plus tuition. All students are eligible for health insurance and have access to professional development training and additional funds for conference travel and research costs. 

Applicants must identify a Gund Faculty Fellow as their primary advisor and must also apply to the appropriate UVM graduate program. These assistantships are for individuals who have not yet started their PhDs. International applicants are welcome to apply.
