Due to a near-term retirement, we are seeking a Forester to join our team based out of our L’Anse, Michigan office. This role is designed to be a strong fit for early career foresters eager to learn, as well as experienced professionals looking for practical, field-focused work in a collaborative environment.
As a Forester, you will be responsible for working with our team on all aspects of our business. Primary duties include the planning, preparation, and contract administration for all aspects of forest management, such as timber harvesting, road building, and reforestation and other silvicultural treatments. You will be responsible for the associated field work including unit layout, harvest inspections, timber cruising, log scaling, and working closely with logging, hauling, and road building contractors. You will also need to work with other staff to facilitate coordinated efforts such as meeting commitments to our customers, ensuring compliance with our environmental protections, and helping facilitate land acquisitions and divestitures.
This is a full-time, exempt position with salary dependent on skills and experience. Successful candidates will report to the office Area Manager. The job is about 75% field based.

Requirements
- BS in Forestry or closely related degree (2 year Forest Technician degree combined with relevant work experience will be considered)
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with timber harvesting, forest products, and regional markets
- A willingness to learn and adapt constantly
- Computer proficiency with various Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with ArcGIS & GPS systems
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- A commitment to work safely
- Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with regulatory agencies, neighbors, and business partners
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to work alone and self-directed with strong time management skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs., walk in varying terrain, and willingness to work in all types of weather.
