Position Summary
The Director of Hawaii Operations is responsible for leading AVS operations across Oahu (primary hub), Maui, and Kona, ensuring excellent execution, safety, team performance, equipment readiness, and operational consistency. This role partners closely with Sales, Project Management, Warehouse, and Technical teams to deliver exceptional client outcomes while maintaining profitability and strong operational discipline. Inter-island travel is required.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and mentor warehouse and technical teams across Oahu, Maui, and Kona.
- Establish consistent SOPs, checklists, and expectations across all Hawaii locations.
- Oversee pulling, QC, packing, load-out/load-in, returns, repairs, and equipment scheduling.
- Coordinate inter-island transfers and freight planning to meet show requirements while controlling costs.
- Support and oversee major events and high-profile clients across Hawaii as needed.
- Champion a safety-first culture and ensure training and compliance are up to date.
- Manage labor planning, budgeting, cost controls, and operational reporting.
- Ensure accurate billing updates and invoice approvals.
Qualifications (Summary)
- Minimum of 10 years of live event audiovisual production experience or equivalent.
- Proven leadership experience in operations, logistics/warehouse, live events, production, or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams across multiple sites or locations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with calm, decisive leadership.
- Financial discipline with a budgeting, labor planning, and cost control mindset.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; ability to drive a box truck preferred.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs frequently (more with team lift as needed).
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as business requires.

Full Job Description
Leadership & Strategic Direction
- Direct the operational vision, goals, and objectives for Hawaii operations (Oahu, Maui, Kona).
- Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs ensuring consistent standards across all locations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, safety, efficiency, and cost control.
- Establish island-to-island operational rhythms for meetings, reporting, and accountability.
- Multi-Location Team Management & Development
- Lead and mentor Warehouse and Technical teams across all islands.
- Oversee recruiting, onboarding, and training to build strong bench strength.
- Conduct performance check-ins and ensure consistent expectations.
- Build staffing, equipment, and logistics coverage plans for peak periods and major events.
Executive Collaboration
- Participate in leadership meetings and provide Hawaii-specific operational updates.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Sales, Project Management, and Operations.
- Champion AVS values and a solutions-driven, one-team culture.
Warehouse Operations & Logistics
- Direct planning, pulling, QC, loading/offloading, transfers, shipping, and scheduling.
- Ensure inventory management, organization, and asset security.
- Coordinate inter-island transfers and freight planning while minimizing cost and risk.
- Maintain fleet readiness and equipment maintenance standards.
Technology & Tools
- Ensure effective adoption of operational software and tools (Flex Rental Solutions, Dropbox, task systems).
- Improve workflows to increase accuracy, transparency, and reporting.
Event Production Management
On-Site Event Oversight
- Travel throughout Hawaii to oversee large-scale or high-profile events.
- Represent AVS professionally with clients, venues, and stakeholders.
Pre-Event Planning & Coordination
- Create event specifications and layouts using CAD/Vectorworks or similar tools.
- Conduct site visits and coordinate logistics, access, labor, and vendors.
- Ensure appropriate staffing and leadership coverage.
- Enforce SOPs, safety standards, and venue regulations.
Execution & Quality Control
- Oversee productivity, quality, and cost management during events.
- Lead real-time troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Confirm venues are left in pristine condition.
Post-Event Closeout & Billing
- Ensure billing updates, add-ons, and modifications are captured.
- Approve vendor invoices and labor charges.
- Support timely final billing closeout.
Communication & Reporting
- Maintain proactive cross-functional communication.
- Lead recurring Hawaii operations meetings.
- Serve as senior-level escalation contact.
- Provide reporting on performance, staffing, equipment readiness, risks, and financial metrics.
Administrative & Compliance
- Manage operational and event budgets.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Oversee scheduling, time entry, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Reinforce safety programs and training requirements.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift 30 lbs regularly and 50 lbs frequently; 100+ lbs with team lift as needed.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; forklift certification and 18’ box truck experience preferred.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug testing, physical examinations, and background checks.
Working Conditions
- Warehouse environments with limited climate control and tight spaces.
- Extended hours, weekends, and holidays as business demands.
- Fast-paced environment requiring adaptability and sound judgment.
- Inter-island travel required.
Requirements
Experience & Education
- Minimum of 10 years of live event audiovisual production experience or equivalent.

- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
