Working as a Codes Compliance Officer, you can expect to respond to and investigate citizen complaints related to code and ordinance violations by conducting visual inspections of properties to ensure compliance. You will gather property ownership information, issue violation notices, and prepare and present cases in court when necessary. This role includes issuing warnings to property owners regarding concerns such as trash, debris, overgrown weeds, and grass, while also serving as a resource to residents and the business community by answering questions and providing guidance on Town codes and ordinances. Additionally, you will research and resolve discrepancies by reviewing department files, court and legal records, databases, and other sources to support enforcement efforts and maintain accurate records. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to weather extremes, environmental elements, hazardous materials, and other field-related conditions.

Minimum Requirements
Here is what you must have to be considered for the position of Codes Compliance Officer:
- High School diploma or GED
- One (1) year previous experience and/or training involving code and regulation or zoning investigation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a public liaison on code compliance matters, including effectively communicating with residents and business owners while balancing diverse needs. Proven experience resolving public relations conflicts with professionalism, sensitivity, and strong negotiation skills, with minimal supervision.
