WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Vice President, Water Resources Modeler for our Lakewood, CO office. This position could work out of WSP's offices in Reno, NV; Salt Lake City, UT; Phoenix, AZ; Tucson, AZ or Redmond, WA. Other WSP office locations or remote options may be considered for an exceptional candidate. Your Impact
- Develop probabilistic, dynamic systems-based water balance and water quality models for the mining industry
- Participate in a wide range of engineering and mining projects; from conceptual water management planning to detailed design of water infrastructure.
- Provide technical expertise related to hydrologic assessments, site-wide and tailings impoundment water balances, options assessments for water management infrastructure, hydraulic and streamflow evaluations, water diversions and control structures.
- Develop hydrologic design criteria (e.g. peak flows and volume for various frequencies of rainfall and snowmelt events).
- Deliver complex water-related scopes of work, including technical reviews, coordination with other disciplines, and interaction with technical leads responsible for mine waste, engineering and stability, and environmental components.
- Provide local leadership to an established mine water management team and interact and collaborate with other senior leaders in the business.
- Lead and contribute to proposals and opportunity management, including frequent interaction with clients.
- Mentoring and leading junior staff and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Lead larger-scale engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
- Develop and sustain positive business relationships by offering innovative solutions to clients through business development initiatives.
- Interface with clients and other WSP international subject matter leaders in the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
- Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, hydrology, environmental science, or related field of study
- 10+ years of relevant post education experience in water resources modeling.
- Demonstrated familiarity with GoldSim
- Experience with data analysis using tools such as R, VBA, Python, and/or MATLAB
- Demonstrated experience in consulting to the mining industry
- Proven track record of developing and strengthening client relationships, and managing business relationships
- Experience in delivering surface water management projects, especially using GoldSim
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem solving, mentoring, writing and people skills
- High degree of motivation, strategic planning, and self-starting capability
- Natural leader with the ability to motivate and lead by example
- Demonstrated experience as a discipline leader with responsibilities including financial performance, business development, and client management.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
- Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.
- Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
